Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Julian Alvarez’s camp as Michael Carrick’s summer striker search takes another aggressive turn.
The Mirror reports that United have joined the developing race around the Atletico Madrid forward, with Arsenal and Barcelona also monitoring the Argentina international’s future.
The claim lands just days after Atletico’s hard public stance was underlined following Real Madrid’s rejected €150million approach.
Carrick Faces Brutal Alvarez Price Barrier
The attraction is obvious.
Alvarez would give United a World Cup-winning forward with elite pressing instincts, Champions League pedigree and the versatility to play through the middle or from the inside channels.
But the financial test is severe. Sky Sports reported that Atletico pointed to Alvarez’s €500million release clause after rejecting Real Madrid’s €150million bid.
The forward remains contracted until 2030, leaving Atletico in a strong negotiating position.
That makes this less a simple transfer chase than a measure of United’s market discipline. Carrick already has attacking firepower in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
United have also been linked with Brian Brobbey as a more attainable option. Read Man Utd has already covered why the Brian Brobbey price reality gives United a discipline test.
United’s recruitment team therefore need clarity quickly. Alvarez is the glamorous route, but any genuine pursuit would demand a fee structure far beyond the opportunistic striker deals discussed in recent weeks.
If contact has been made, United must now decide whether this is a real market opening or simply another elite name capable of draining time from the window.
