Manchester United want ‘excellent’ winger after 2026 FIFA World Cup heroics

The summer transfer window is an important one for Manchester United as they aim to bolster their ranks under Michael Carrick.

They could do well with a quality player or two in attack, and TEAMtalk report that the Red Devils have firmed up their interest in Ismaila Sarr after his fantastic displays for Senegal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The tricky winger has a wealth of Premier League experience under his belt and has proved his class on the grandest stage, making him an intriguing prospect for Manchester United.

And now, after his World Cup displays, it won’t come as a surprise to see clubs circle for him.

Manchester United want to sign Ismaila Sarr

Sarr scored four times and provided one assist for Senegal in what turned out to be an unbelievable campaign for him on a personal level.

However, Senegal let a two-goal lead slip against Belgium and eventually lost 3-2 as they were dumped out of the World Cup in the Round of 32.

According to the aforementioned report, Manchester United held an interest in Sarr before the World Cup and are ready to step up their pursuit after his recent exploits for Senegal.

While the 28-year-old is predominantly a winger, he showed during the World Cup that he is capable of playing centrally, which is another reason why the Red Devils are really interested in securing his signature.

Sarr dubbed an ‘excellent’ player

Sarr enjoyed his best-ever season at Crystal Palace last season, recording 21 goals and two assists across all competitions as Oliver Glasner’s side won the UEFA Conference League.

He was also named Player of the Tournament and finished as the competition’s top scorer with nine goals to his name.

Last season, Glasner lavished praise on Sarr, describing him as an ‘excellent’ player.

The former Palace boss also claimed he wasn’t surprised by the 28-year-old’s end product last season as they won yet another trophy under his leadership.

“It’s a great season,” said Glasner via Hayters TV.

“Honestly, I’m not really surprised. I predicted it before the season. He had a great season last year without pre-season, without being in a rhythm.

“He started slow, which was completely normal. He wasn’t allowed to train at Marseille. He wasn’t allowed to play at Marseille. Then, he showed how good he is.

“Now he knows exactly how we want to play. He knows where to move, where to run. He’s in the pocket.

“He makes runs in behind. He always gets his chances in there. He has the confidence to score. He’s in fantastic shape and it’s great for us to have him.”

Manchester United can do a lot worse than Sarr, but it remains to be seen if Palace agree to part with him, especially with the likes of Adam Wharton, Maxence Lacroix and Jean-Philippe Mateta linked with Selhurst Park departures.
