Manchester United Reveal Location For New 100,000-Seat Stadium

Manchester United have revealed where their proposed new 100,000-seat stadium will be built, with the ground set to sit around 350 metres north-west of Old Trafford.

Sky Sports reports that the new stadium will become the flagship of the Trafford Wharfside Masterplan, although United have not yet decided what will happen to the current Old Trafford.

United are expected to keep playing at Old Trafford while the new ground is built. The project is planned as the largest stadium in the UK, ahead of Wembley’s 90,000 capacity.

ReadManUtd recently covered how United secured most of the land required for the new 100,000-seat stadium. This latest update gives supporters a clearer picture of where the club’s next home would sit.

United Stadium Plan Moves Into Clearer View

The wider Trafford Wharfside plan still needs approval from Trafford Council. If it passes on 20 July, an eight-week consultation will run from 28 July to 22 September.

United say the wider area could become a year-round sports and entertainment hub, with new homes, improved public transport and better walking and cycling routes.

The new stadium, referred to as “New Trafford” in briefing material, would take around five years to build. It is expected to include an umbrella-style design, three large masts and a New Stretford End with a reported 23,500 capacity.

For United fans, the key issue remains identity. A move 350 metres away would keep the club rooted in the Old Trafford area, but the future of the current ground still needs clarity.

The club have now moved beyond broad ambition. Planning, consultation and funding questions remain, but United’s proposed new home is starting to feel far more real.
