Lisandro Martínez will face Manchester United team-mates Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo after helping Argentina reach the World Cup semi-finals.
The defender completed the full 120 minutes as Argentina beat Switzerland 3-1 after extra time in Kansas City.
Alexis Mac Allister headed Lionel Messi’s corner into the net after 10 minutes. However, Switzerland responded strongly and tested Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martínez several times.
Lisandro Martínez produced an important block to stop Dan Ndoye during the second half. The Nottingham Forest winger later equalised following a clever exchange with Ricardo Rodríguez.
Switzerland’s challenge became harder when Breel Embolo received a second yellow card for simulation after a VAR review.
Martínez prepares for United reunion
Argentina could not take advantage during normal time, although Martínez nearly scored with an acrobatic volley from a corner.
Julián Álvarez eventually restored their lead in the 112th minute with a superb curling strike from outside the penalty area.
Lautaro Martínez then completed the 3-1 victory over Switzerland in the closing moments.
Lisandro Martínez has now featured in five of Argentina’s six matches at the tournament. His latest full appearance offered another sign of progress after the injury problems which disrupted his recent Manchester United seasons.
Argentina will face England in Atlanta on Wednesday for a place in the World Cup final.
The match could put Martínez directly against Rashford and Mainoo. It also guarantees at least one United player will reach the final in New Jersey.
Michael Carrick will be pleased to see Martínez playing regularly again. However, another demanding 120-minute appearance adds to his workload before he eventually returns for club duty.
