Marcus Rashford has told Manchester United that he is available for pre-season ahead of direct talks with Michael Carrick.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Rashford and the United head coach will discuss the forward’s future once England’s World Cup campaign ends.
No final decision has been made over whether the 28-year-old will remain at Old Trafford next season.
However, Rashford’s willingness to return for pre-season keeps the possibility of a first-team reintegration firmly open.
He has not played for United since December 2024 following loan spells with Aston Villa and Barcelona.
Carrick faces major Rashford decision
Rashford had hoped to remain at Barcelona after helping the club win La Liga last season.
However, the Spanish side did not activate their purchase option. United have also shown little interest in approving another temporary move.
The latest reporting on Rashford’s future suggests he is now expected to begin the new campaign back at Old Trafford unless a permanent offer arrives.
ReadManUtd previously examined how Rashford’s return would hand Carrick an immediate squad-management decision.
Carrick must decide whether the forward can fit the standards and tactical structure established during his first months in charge.
Rashford can still offer pace, goals and experience from the left. His return could also reduce the need for United to spend heavily on another winger.
His salary and uncertain relationship with the club remain potential obstacles.
The planned talks will therefore cover more than pre-season availability. They could decide whether Rashford receives a genuine second chance or remains available for transfer.
