Cole Palmer has sent a supportive message to Andrey Santos following the midfielder’s £50million transfer from Chelsea to Manchester United.
United signed Santos for an initial £48m, with a further £2m available through add-ons. The Brazil international has agreed a contract until June 2031 as Michael Carrick rebuilds his midfield.
Santos has now revealed that former Chelsea team-mate Palmer contacted him after the move was confirmed.
“I got a message from Cole,” Santos said during an interview with United’s official media.
“He said all the best for you, for your career, you deserve this. I’m so excited to be here in Manchester with my new team-mates.”
Palmer also responded publicly to United’s announcement, writing: “What a player! Good luck bro,” alongside a red heart emoji, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Santos prepares for possible Man Utd debut
The message reflects the relationship Santos built with Palmer during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Santos made 43 appearances for Chelsea last season after previous loan spells with Vasco da Gama, Nottingham Forest and Strasbourg. United have invested heavily in his potential after identifying him as a central part of Carrick’s plans.
The 22-year-old has already completed his first session at Carrington. As Read Man Utd reported, he joined Carrick’s group as preparations continued for the opening pre-season fixture.
United face Wrexham at Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium on Saturday, 18 July, with kick-off scheduled for 4pm BST. The match will be shown live on MUTV.
Santos could receive his first minutes in a United shirt as Carrick begins assessing how he fits alongside fellow summer arrival Youri Tielemans.
