Man Utd fans make bold Chelsea claim after £48m Santos debut

Manchester United supporters were encouraged by Andrey Santos’ first-half debut against Wrexham, with some already predicting Chelsea will regret selling the midfielder.

The 22-year-old started United’s opening pre-season friendly at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium only days after completing his transfer from Stamford Bridge.

Michael Carrick named Santos in the more experienced first-half side as he looked to build fitness and understanding between his senior players.

United officially confirmed the Brazilian’s first appearance before kick-off, with supporters quickly focusing on his performance in central midfield.

Santos produced a steady display rather than attempting to dominate the game. His willingness to receive possession, play forward and help United regain the ball still earned an immediate positive reaction.

Man Utd fans impressed by Santos’ forward passing

Supporters praised the midfielder’s positioning and defensive awareness, but his first thought in possession attracted the most attention.

Several fans highlighted Santos’ willingness to break lines rather than automatically returning the ball to United’s defenders. Others felt he already looked comfortable inside Carrick’s midfield structure.

One supporter predicted Chelsea would regret approving the transfer, while another described Santos as a possible signing of the season.

Those reactions remain extremely early, particularly during the first friendly of a six-week pre-season programme. Carrick had already warned that his priority was helping players rediscover rhythm rather than demanding outstanding individual performances.

However, Santos displayed several of the qualities United wanted when they agreed a package worth £48m plus add-ons.

His debut followed a busy first week at the club after Read Man Utd reported his inclusion in the 25-man Helsinki squad.

The tougher assessments will arrive later in pre-season. Santos has at least made a positive first impression on the supporters watching his opening minutes in a United shirt.
