Manchester United have received encouragement in their pursuit of Alex Scott after the midfielder rejected a new contract offer from Bournemouth.
Michael Carrick remains interested in adding another midfielder despite the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
Sky Sports reports that Scott has turned down several proposals from Bournemouth. United, Arsenal and Chelsea are believed to remain the frontrunners for his signature.
The 22-year-old has entered the final two years of his contract. However, Bournemouth still expect him to remain at the club next season and have already rejected enquiries from the three interested teams.

United have tracked Scott throughout the summer as Carrick looks for greater mobility in midfield.
The England Under-21 international can carry possession through pressure and recover the ball in advanced areas. His Premier League experience also makes him an attractive option for United’s recruitment team.
ReadManUtd previously reported that Manchester United had not ruled out a move for Scott despite Bournemouth placing an £80million valuation on him.
Scott’s contract decision could weaken Bournemouth’s position if he continues to reject fresh terms. However, the Cherries can retain him without facing immediate pressure to sell this summer.
United are also considering Manu Koné and other midfield options. The club must decide whether Scott’s age and Premier League experience justify meeting Bournemouth’s considerable demands.
No formal United bid has been reported. His refusal to sign a new contract may still encourage the club to test Bournemouth’s resolve before the window closes.
