Former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has become the subject of an unusual statement from tenth-tier side Flixton FC.
The Jadon Sancho Flixton story emerged after the 26-year-old used the non-league club’s facilities to maintain his fitness while searching for his next team.
Sancho is currently a free agent after his Manchester United contract expired this summer.
The winger spent last season on loan at Aston Villa before bringing an end to a five-year association with United, who signed him from Borussia Dortmund for £73million in 2021.
ReadManUtd reported before the end of last season that United had decided against extending Sancho’s contract, allowing him to leave Old Trafford for nothing.
Jadon Sancho Flixton speculation prompts statement
Club owner Christopher Garcia confirmed that Sancho was neither on trial nor involved in talks over joining the North West Counties League side.
Instead, the former England international had been using their facilities for private training as he prepares for the next stage of his career.
Garcia also praised Sancho’s conduct during his visit. The winger spent time meeting young supporters, posing for photographs and signing autographs after completing his session.
The clarification became necessary after footage emerged of Sancho praising Flixton’s facilities, leading to tongue-in-cheek speculation over whether one of United’s former £73m signings could make an extraordinary move into non-league football.
There is genuine interest elsewhere.
GOAL reports that Qatari side Al-Rayyan have made an enquiry, while Sancho remains open to opportunities as he searches for his first permanent club since leaving United.
