Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United future remains uncertain as Michael Carrick prepares to decide whether the forward can be reintegrated at Old Trafford.
The latest Marcus Rashford discussion comes after Barcelona declined their £26million option to buy him permanently.
Rashford is due back at Carrington following the World Cup after spending the last 18 months away from United on loan at Aston Villa and Barcelona.
His situation is unusual. Matheus Cunha now wears the No.10 shirt previously associated with Rashford, while the England international has not played for United since December 2024.
Sky Sports discuss Marcus Rashford Man Utd return
Journalist William Bitibiri described the situation as “awkward” and suggested Rashford currently looks like a “spare part” after losing his squad number.
However, Sky Sports News reporter Dan Khan highlighted the quality United would regain if Carrick decides to bring him back into the fold. Rashford rebuilt his reputation during a productive season with Barcelona and remains one of the biggest names in United’s squad.
A permanent departure remains possible.
ReadManUtd reported earlier on Monday that Fenerbahce have contacted Rashford’s representatives, with the Turkish side reportedly prepared to spend heavily on a move.
Carrick must therefore decide whether Rashford can contribute to his first full season or whether a clean break now suits both parties.
Barcelona’s decision has put that choice back in United’s hands. Unless Fenerbahce or another club turn their interest into a suitable offer, Rashford could yet find himself fighting for another chance at Old Trafford.
