Eva Olid is set to become Manchester United Women’s new head coach as the club move quickly to replace Marc Skinner ahead of the new Women’s Super League season.
The former Hearts manager has emerged as United’s chosen candidate following Skinner’s departure by mutual consent earlier this week.
The Guardian reports that United are set to appoint Olid, with negotiations at an advanced stage and the 40-year-old expected to begin working with the squad shortly.
United have not yet officially confirmed the appointment, so Olid cannot be described as their new head coach until the club make an announcement.
Eva Olid set to take over Manchester United Women
Olid arrives with a strong reputation for developing players, something United have prioritised during their search for Skinner’s successor.
She previously managed Hearts and has also worked in the United States and with the Catalan Football Federation.
Her expected arrival comes at an important stage of United’s preparations.
ReadManUtd reported after Skinner’s exit that United were already advanced in their search for a replacement, with experience developing young players identified as one of the key requirements.
That appears to have played an important role in Olid emerging as the preferred candidate.
United begin their WSL campaign against London City Lionesses on 4 September, giving the incoming coach less than a month to work with her new squad before competitive football begins.
Recruitment also remains unfinished, with United expected to strengthen further before the transfer window closes.
Olid’s appointment would at least provide some much-needed clarity following a disruptive start to pre-season.
Official confirmation is now the final step before a new era begins for Manchester United Women.
