Mason Mount suffers injury blow after just 19 minutes vs PSG

Mason Mount was forced off injured after just 19 minutes of Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain.

The midfielder was replaced by Tyler Fletcher after receiving treatment, handing Michael Carrick another fitness concern ahead of the new Premier League season.

Mason Mount injury adds to Man Utd concerns

Mount started alongside Andrey Santos in midfield as United faced the Champions League holders in Gothenburg.

However, his afternoon ended less than 20 minutes into the game.

Reports from the match confirm Mount spoke with Manchester United’s medical staff before heading down the tunnel, with Fletcher introduced in his place.

There has been no confirmation yet over the nature or severity of the problem.

The injury will be particularly frustrating for Mount after he had enjoyed a regular role throughout United’s pre-season programme.

ReadManUtd highlighted before the summer fixtures that Mount had been used in a deeper midfield role by Carrick, with United short of options in central areas.

That shortage has already been worsened by Manuel Ugarte’s long-term injury, while several senior players only recently returned following the World Cup.

Mount’s latest setback could therefore increase the importance of Youri Tielemans and United’s other midfield options over the final weeks of pre-season.

For now, United will wait for an assessment before learning whether Mount faces any time on the sidelines.
