Everton are targeting two Manchester United youngsters as Michael Carrick and the club face fresh decisions over Ethan Wheatley and Jack Moorhouse before the transfer window closes.
Wheatley and Moorhouse have both attracted permanent interest after progressing through the academy, with Everton now involved in the race for both players.
According to a fresh exclusive from Roundtable, Everton are leading the interest in Wheatley, while Lincoln City are also monitoring the centre-forward.
The same report says the Toffees have enquired about Moorhouse, who is also wanted by Wigan Athletic.
Manchester United youngsters face major transfer decisions
Wheatley became United’s 250th academy graduate when he made his senior debut in 2024, but establishing a regular first-team role has proved difficult.
Competition has only increased under Carrick, leaving the 20-year-old with an important decision over whether another move could provide the regular senior football he needs.
Moorhouse is in a similar position after spending part of last season on loan at Leyton Orient.
United have already shown this summer that they are prepared to sanction permanent departures when the deal makes sense. ReadManUtd reported on Saturday that Radek Vitek completed a move to Middlesbrough worth up to £14million, with United protecting themselves through future clauses.
Further academy movement could now follow.
Stockport County have held talks with United over a season-long loan for Ethan Ennis, although the two clubs have yet to agree the financial terms of the proposed move.
Jaydan Kamason is also attracting Championship interest after featuring during pre-season.
United therefore have several decisions approaching at once.
Carrick has shown he is willing to involve academy players when they earn an opportunity, but keeping every prospect around the senior squad is unrealistic.
Everton’s interest in Wheatley and Moorhouse could now force the next calls to be made.
