Benjamin Sesko is unlikely to feature for Manchester United against Leeds on Wednesday night, with the latest Benjamin Sesko injury update pointing towards Saturday’s final pre-season friendly against AC Milan as a possible return date.
The 23-year-old has travelled with Michael Carrick’s squad to Ireland and has now returned to training with his team-mates as he continues his recovery from a shin problem. Sesko has not played a single minute during United’s pre-season programme so far.
According to Etienne Fermie of The Sun, Sesko is unlikely to be involved when United face Leeds at Croke Park, but there is a chance he could make his comeback against AC Milan in Poland on Saturday.
That would give the Slovenia international one opportunity to build match sharpness before United begin their Premier League campaign against Hull City on 22 August.
Benjamin Sesko injury update points to AC Milan return
United have taken a cautious approach with Sesko throughout the summer after the striker carried his shin problem into pre-season.
He previously remained at Carrington while Carrick’s side faced Rosenborg, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. ReadManUtd reported last week that Sesko was still expected to be available for the opening league game despite those absences.
The fact he is now training in Ireland represents another step forward, even if Wednesday’s meeting with Leeds comes slightly too soon.
Carrick has alternatives available in attack. Bryan Mbeumo has operated centrally during Sesko’s absence and scored against PSG, while Marcus Rashford and Matheus Cunha have also joined the squad in Ireland.

For Sesko, however, Saturday now appears the more realistic target. Getting minutes against Milan would give Carrick another chance to assess his first-choice striker before competitive football returns.
