Fabrizio Romano reveals Man Utd stance on Joshua Zirkzee after Leeds goal

Fabrizio Romano has revealed Manchester United are now happy to keep Joshua Zirkzee as Juventus continue pushing to sign the forward this summer.

Zirkzee’s future has remained uncertain throughout the transfer window, with the 25-year-old open to returning to Serie A and Juventus holding talks over a possible deal.

His impressive pre-season has complicated that situation, however, with Zirkzee scoring again during United’s 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Wednesday night.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Joshua Zirkzee Man Utd stance

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano reports that United will not sanction a straightforward loan move for Zirkzee.

Juventus would need to agree either a permanent transfer or a loan containing an obligation to buy before United consider allowing him to leave.

Romano also says Michael Carrick and United are now “very happy” with Zirkzee and would have no problem keeping the Netherlands international at Old Trafford.

That position is significant after weeks of uncertainty.

ReadManUtd reported last week that United had opened the door to a potential loan departure, although they still preferred a deal containing an obligation to buy.

Zirkzee has since strengthened his case to remain in Carrick’s squad.

The forward scored against Leeds after combining with Bryan Mbeumo and has looked increasingly comfortable during United’s preparations for the new campaign.

Benjamin Sesko remains Carrick’s recognised centre-forward, but Zirkzee offers something different through his ability to drop deeper and link play.

Juventus’ interest has not disappeared, but United are now in a stronger position.

Unless the Italian club are prepared to meet their conditions, Zirkzee could remain at Old Trafford and fight for his place when the Premier League season begins.
