Manchester United round off their summer preparations this weekend, and the Milan friendly is Michael Carrick’s final chance to fine-tune his side before the real stuff begins. The Red Devils meet the Rossoneri on Saturday 15 August in their last outing before the Premier League opener away at Hull City on 22 August.
United head into the game in decent shape. After an early stumble against Wrexham, Carrick’s men thumped Rosenborg 5-0, edged Atlético Madrid 2-1 thanks to a Bryan Mbeumo double, were held by Paris Saint-Germain, and on Wednesday beat Leeds 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Croke Park in Dublin.
Team news for the Milan friendly
The Evening Standard has published confirmed team news and a predicted lineup for the match, with much of the attention on whether Marcus Rashford gets minutes. The forward has rejoined the squad following his loan at Barcelona but did not feature against Leeds, and his long-term future at Old Trafford remains unresolved.
Carrick has been bullish about how his squad are attacking the new campaign. “We’re working with pushing everything that we can to make the best of it,” he said this week. “For now, we’ve got to make the most of it, push everything in every boundary that we can to be able to win again, basically.”
After Milan it is Hull away, then the Champions League league-phase draw on 27 August as United return to Europe’s top table. Pre-season ends Saturday — the serious business is nearly here. Follow all the latest United news ahead of the big kick-off.
