Joshua Zirkzee could become one of the Manchester United players to leave before the transfer window closes, with Fabrizio Romano revealing fresh interest in the Dutch forward.
Zirkzee has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in previous windows, particularly Juventus keeping an eye on his situation. According to Fabrizio Romano, that interest has returned, although the structure of any potential deal could determine whether United are willing to let him leave.
Joshua Zirkzee is a wanted man
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that clubs are currently making enquiries about the 25-year-old.
“We should keep an eye on Joshua Zirkzee. There is some movement around the Manchester United striker. There is some interest, again from Italy, but not only,” Romano said.
The transfer expert suggested Manchester United could receive offers if they are prepared to consider a loan deal that includes an option or obligation to buy.
“If Manchester United, from now until the end of the window, decide to let Joshua Zirkzee go on loan with a buy clause, eventually there could be movements for the Dutch striker,” he added.
For now, there appears to be nothing concrete on the table. Fabrizio Romano stressed that clubs are still trying to understand United’s position rather than submitting formal proposals.
“At the moment it’s about calls from clubs trying to understand the situation but Joshua Zirkzee could be an interesting name to follow from now until the end of the window, depending on the conditions of the deal.”
How Joshua Zirkzee’s transfer changes Manchester United transfer plans
Zirkzee’s future could also have a knock-on effect on United’s plans for the rest of the window.
The club have already strengthened their attacking options this summer, but letting the Dutchman leave would leave Michael Carrick needing another forward to provide depth.
Romano believes that could open up an unexpected transfer avenue for United.
“For Zirkzee, every single window there is movement and then he ends up staying. Let’s see what’s going to be the case in this story in this transfer window for the Dutch striker.”
Manchester United had not been expected to prioritise another striker, with their attention largely focused on strengthening at left-back and in central midfield.
However, Zirkzee’s departure would change that.
“Eventually for Man Utd it would be one more surprise, as the striker position was not something Man Utd were prioritising in this window,” Romano explained. “Now the focus was more on left-back and a central midfielder – but, if Zirkzee goes, striker could be a surprise position to follow.”
With the window entering its final stages, Zirkzee’s situation could therefore become increasingly important. United must decide whether to keep the Dutchman as part of Carrick’s squad or consider a deal that could free up space for another attacking addition.
