The Seagulls eliminated United from the FA Cup with a 2-1 third-round victory in January 2026, making September’s meeting an early opportunity for revenge.

United have since strengthened considerably, including the signing of former Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.

ReadManUtd covered Baleba’s official £70m move earlier this week, although the Cameroon international is currently recovering from an ankle injury.

The Carabao Cup represents another route to silverware for Carrick after United’s return to the Champions League this season.

Their European schedule is also beginning to take shape after United discovered their eight league-phase opponents on Thursday.
