Fabrizio Romano Reveals Huge Midfielder Transformation at Man Utd

Manchester United are delighted with the way Kobbie Mainoo’s situation has changed under Michael Carrick, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Not long ago, Kobbie Mainoo looked close to leaving Old Trafford. During Ruben Amorim’s time in charge, the midfielder was not considered a key part of the team and came close to joining Napoli on loan in January.

That move was reportedly well advanced before Manchester United changed manager.

Michael Carrick stepped in and quickly gave Mainoo a much bigger role. That decision has continued into the new season, with the academy graduate now firmly regarded as one of United’s permanent starter.

“In less than one year, in basically eight nine months, everything changed around Kobbie Mainoo,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

The Italian journalist revealed just how close Mainoo came to leaving before Carrick arrived.

“Remember that in the January window, before Ruben Amorim got fired by Manchester United, Kobbie Mainoo was almost, almost going on loan to Napoli.”

According to Romano, the deal was “really concrete” and “very advanced”. Then Michael Carrick took over and Kobbie Mainoo immediately became an important part of his plans.

United have since handed Mainoo a new contract, while the midfielder is viewed as an important player for both the present and future.

Romano also says Mainoo himself is happy with how things have developed.

At Carrick’s end, the decision has earned plenty of praise inside the club. Romano believes the manager’s handling of Mainoo was one of the most appreciated parts of his time at United, particularly now that the 21-year-old is performing well.
