Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt joke about Benjamin Sesko injury

Manchester United legends Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt have questioned Benjamin Sesko’s latest injury setback after the striker was ruled out of Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Benjamin Sesko has struggled with a shin problem dating back to last season and missed the entirety of United’s pre-season. The issue initially came from a kick to his shin in the spring before being aggravated by a heavy landing during United’s win over Liverpool at Old Trafford in May.

The £74million summer signing from RB Leipzig has since started against Sabah in the Champions League and Brighton in the Carabao Cup. He was then used from the bench in United’s opening four Premier League matches before being left out of the squad altogether for the trip to Fulham.

The latest setback has raised questions from Butt, who believes Manchester United are short of options at centre-forward.

No.9 is the biggest problem for Paul Scholes

“The back four is a massive problem, but for me the biggest problem is the No. 9,” Butt said on The Good, The Bad and The Football. “How can Man United have one centre forward? Who is injured, with what, a shin injury?”

Scholes was similarly puzzled by the nature of Sesko’s injury, joking about the possibility of protecting the area with shin pads.

“How do you injure your shin? Ain’t that a broken leg?” Scholes said. “Can’t you just put your shinpads on?”

Butt admitted that without knowing the precise nature of Sesko’s problem, it was difficult to assess the situation.

‘You either break your shin, or you play. Put your shin pads on or your padding on, I don’t quite get it. Without knowing what it is, it is hard to discuss it.’
