Michael Carrick unhappy with Manchester United hierarchy

Michael Carrick is reportedly unhappy with Manchester United’s hierarchy after a difficult start to the season and concerns over the club’s summer transfer business.

Michael Carrick has won just one of his first five Premier League matches as permanent manager, while Manchester United have also suffered a League Cup defeat. Despite the poor results, there are currently no plans to dismiss the manager.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes Carrick has been left with too many weaknesses to work around and claims the board has not given him enough support.

“There’s obviously a lot of pressure on Michael Carrick to deliver results,” Mick Brown told Football Insider. “They’ve not been good enough this season, but he cannot be solely to blame for Man United’s issues because the board have failed to give him the backing he needs.”

Michael Carrick left with major squad concerns

Brown believes the problems stretch across several areas of the team, leaving Carrick with limited solutions.

“He’s working with what he’s got available to him and in the situation the club have placed him,” Brown said. “Everybody knows the problems in this squad, including the club.”

“But the board haven’t done enough to address those concerns, so Carrick has been set up to fail if they are expecting him to go and win trophies with this group of players,” Brown added.

Carrick is also frustrated because responsibility for the team’s struggles ultimately falls on the manager.

“He is not happy either, because ultimately he will get the blame when it’s not as simple as the manager doing better when he’s not got the proper support from those at the top.”
