Manchester United Women boss Eva Olid has admitted everyone is surprised by how quickly Andrea Medina has settled into life at the club.
Andrea Medina joined Manchester United from Atletico de Madrid in July, making the move to a new country and a new league for the first time in her career. Her start has been particularly impressive, with the defender already becoming a popular figure among the supporters.
Eva Olid believes Medina’s positive attitude has played a major role in her quick adaptation. The United manager compared the Spaniard’s experience with her own move to Scotland, recalling how difficult her first few months abroad had been.
“When you come from another country, and I include myself – I’m here in the UK five years already, but my first three months I remember were difficult,” Olid said to the Manchester United official site.
“She’s so happy from the first day and giving energy in the morning.”
Andrea Medina making an impact at both ends
Medina’s performances have quickly matched her personality. She scored her first goal for United against West Ham on Sunday, with the strike proving to be the winner.
Her celebration showed just how quickly she has connected with the club, while fans gave her a warm reception when her name was announced before kick-off. She also received a standing ovation when she was substituted late in the game.
Olid believes Medina offers more than defensive qualities. The manager highlighted her ability to deal with attacking full-backs while also contributing further forward.
“She can defend but she can give a lot in the final third,” Olid explained, pointing to Medina’s ability to come inside, finish chances and create assists.
