Manchester United Reportedly Line Up Lausanne Friendly
Manchester United are reportedly planning a behind closed doors friendly against Lausanne-Sport during the international break. The proposed Man Utd Lausanne friendly would see United’s non-international players face Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Swiss club while several senior squad members report for national duty.
Lausanne-Sport have belonged to INEOS, the group led by United’s minority shareholder Ratcliffe, since 2017. No date, kick off time or venue has been made public, and neither club has confirmed the plan.
Media Reports Detail Proposed International Break Fixture
The story originated with the Telegraph, as cited in reporting by the Manchester Evening News. According to that reporting, United have discussed a low key run out against Lausanne during the coming break, though the fixture remains unconfirmed by either party.
The Ratcliffe connection explains why Lausanne feature so heavily in the speculation. INEOS took control of the Swiss club in 2017, and the shared ownership makes a private, behind closed doors arrangement far simpler to organise than a fixture against a club with no ties to United’s hierarchy. Even so, the specifics of when and where it might happen are still unknown.
Carrick Dismisses Fitness Concerns Ahead of Break
Michael Carrick has already pushed back on doubts about his squad’s condition, following recent squad fitness questions raised after United’s draw at Fulham. Asked about Matheus Cunha’s suggestion that Fulham’s players looked to have more energy in the second half, Carrick said:
“It didn’t look like that to me.”
He went further when asked to expand on the point:
“I was quite happy with the way we finished the game. I thought we finished the game really strongly actually and we kept pushing. So I don’t think that’s an issue, no.”
Carrick’s answer leaves little room to read fatigue into United’s closing stages at Craven Cottage. It is a fairly direct rejection of the idea that his squad is running out of steam late in games.
Upcoming Schedule and International Break Plans
The international break offers United a rare chance to keep fringe players sharp without disturbing the Premier League calendar. With a number of first team regulars away on national duty, those left behind could use a Man Utd Lausanne friendly to get minutes together, and youngsters pushing for inclusion would stand to gain from that kind of run out.
Nothing has been confirmed beyond the reports so far. United have not outlined further plans for the break publicly, and attention will turn back to the Premier League schedule once the window closes.
