Roy Keane blasts Man Utd player for a family decision after Manchester derby

Roy Keane has questioned Senne Lammens’ decision to celebrate with family and friends on the pitch after Manchester United lost the derby to Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Manchester United had a major advantage during the game when Phil Foden was sent off following an altercation with Bruno Fernandes. Despite playing against 10 men, Michael Carrick’s side failed to make their advantage count and City scored the only goal of the match.

The defeat clearly frustrated Roy Keane, who was speaking on The Overlap about how football and the environment around clubs have changed.

The former United captain focused on what he saw after the final whistle. According to Roy Keane, Lammens was on the pitch taking photographs with members of his family despite United having just lost to their local rivals.

Keane reacts to Lammens’ family celebrations

“Years ago you might have two people there or three. At most you might have five, five over from Ireland. Now they’ve got about 15 each,” Keane said.

He then recalled seeing Lammens after the game.

“I saw the goalkeeper after the match, and I know you’ve family and friends, he’s on the pitch getting his photograph with family and friends after the game. You’ve lost the derby game?”

Keane also admitted that the atmosphere around football clubs has changed significantly, pointing to the number of family members and friends now present around players after matches.

For the former United captain, though, the issue was less about families being involved and more about the timing of the celebrations. With United beaten at home by City despite having an extra player, Keane clearly felt the mood should have been very different.
