Manchester United are reportedly exploring legal and regulatory options over JJ Gabriel’s future as the 15-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
According to The Sun, United are looking at ways to protect their position if JJ Gabriel follows through with his decision to leave. The situation has become more complicated with several major European clubs believed to be monitoring the youngsters.
JJ Gabriel has not signed a professional contract with Manchester United, with his age creating further difficulties around his future. The teenager reportedly informed the club last month that he wanted to be deregistered, and United sources expect him to leave.
Manchester United examining options as European interest grows
Barcelona have been heavily linked with JJ Gabriel, particularly after the teenager and his family were seen in the city. Reports also claimed Barcelona sporting director Deco had spoken with his representative, Ali Barat.
Deco has publicly denied Barcelona’s involvement, saying: “We are not interested in any player in his situation. I am not sure what’s happening, and if he’s still a Manchester United player. We are not involved in that.”
United are now considering whether regulatory action, and potentially legal steps, can be taken against anyone involved in arranging Gabriel’s departure.
The club faces another concern if Gabriel moves abroad. Reports claim United could receive only a relatively small compensation payment despite the level of interest in the England Under-17 international.
Barat has already received Football Association approval to represent minors, adding another development to the situation.
United had been planning to involve Gabriel with the first team, with the youngster expected to be included in the League Cup matchday squad against Brighton after missing the Champions League fixture against Sabah.
