Bruno Fernandes reveals manager who still means so much to him

Bruno Fernandes still has plenty of respect for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the Manchester United captain crediting his former manager for giving him the chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Bruno Fernandes joined Manchester United from Sporting CP in January 2020, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the dugout at the time. The Portuguese midfielder quickly established himself as one of the most important players at Old Trafford and has remained grateful to the Norwegian for trusting him.

Speaking through Beanyman Sports, Fernandes looked back fondly on their time together.

“Ole was a very important manager for me. He was the one who gave me a chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Fernandes said.

Fernandes still keeps in touch with Solskjaer

The United captain admitted he enjoyed working with Solskjaer and still speaks to him occasionally about football.

“I was very happy with the time I spent with him,” Fernandes added.

Fernandes also revealed that the pair had not spoken specifically about the recent meeting with Norway, although they still have contact from time to time.

“We speak once in a while about football but we haven’t had the chance to speak about this game,” he explained.

Fernandes had overcome a slight physical issue before returning to international action, and he went on to make a decisive contribution for Portugal with two assists in their 4-2 victory over Denmark.

With Solskjaer on the opposing side in the latest Nations League meeting, Fernandes joked that he hoped to have the better reason to message his former boss afterwards.

“I hope I can send him a message at the end of the game that is good for me and not for him.”

Portugal edged past Norway 2-1 despite receiving a late red card.
