Manchester United need a more experienced coach to succeed

Michael Carrick has been warned that Manchester United needs more managerial experience around him if he is going to succeed at Old Trafford.

Former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout Bryan King believes Michael Carrick is a good coach and a respected former player, but his experience is not enough for a job of this size.

Manchester United have made a poor start to the season, winning only two of their first seven matches across all competitions. That has already put Carrick under pressure after he was handed the job permanently in the summer following a successful spell as interim manager.

King feels United need an experienced figure to help Michael Carrick deal with the demands of managing one of England’s biggest clubs.

Carrick needs experienced support at Man Utd

“Manchester United have always been synonymous with the name of football in England,” King told Football Insider.

He believes the club have never fully replaced Sir Alex Ferguson, either in the dugout or in terms of the quality of players brought through since his retirement.

“I’m afraid Michael Carrick’s a very nice fella, a very good footballer. He had a great run last season. But he needs an experienced figure alongside him and Manchester United need an experienced figure,” King added.

Carrick is not short of experienced people around him. Steve Holland previously worked with Gareth Southgate and at Chelsea, while Jonathan Woodgate and Jonny Evans also bring plenty of experience from their playing careers. Travis Binnion and Craig Mawson complete the current backroom group.

The question is whether that experience is enough to help Carrick turn United around. King thinks otherwise and recommends Carrick to surround himself with proven winning experience.
