Manchester United could be prepared to listen to offers for Diogo Dalot as Michael Carrick’s defence faces a major reshuffle in 2027.
Diogo Dalot has remained Michael Carrick’s preferred right-back this season and has started all but one of United’s Premier League matches. His performances have drawn mixed reviews, though, and the club are now considering whether his place in the long-term plan is secure.
Former United chief scout Mick Brown believes Dalot is one of several defenders whose future could depend on what offers arrive.
“Dalot is a bit like marmite, some people love him, and some think he’s not good enough,” Brown told Football Insider.
“The truth of that is probably somewhere in the middle, because he’s a decent option and he’s done a good job, but you wouldn’t say he’s a real top-class right-back.”
Dalot could make way for new Manchester United signing
Manchester United are expected to spend heavily on their defence in 2027 after leaving that area largely untouched during the previous summer windows, as detailed in our previous report on a defensive overhaul.
Brown says Dalot is not currently being pushed out of the club, but United have not completely closed the door on selling him either.
“I think at the moment they will be reluctant to lose Dalot; he’s not one they’re going to be pushing out, but at the same time they haven’t ruled out letting him go,” he added.
The 27-year-old has become a regular under Michael Carrick because of his reliability, even if his performances can fluctuate.
“If the right offer comes in, I’m sure they will be ready to listen to it,” Brown said.
Although United have plenty of deadwood to clear before they sell Dalot, he may leave at the right price.
