Teenager pushes for Barcelona move despite earlier snub

JJ Gabriel’s Manchester United future looks increasingly uncertain, with reports claiming the teenager wants a move to Barcelona despite the Catalan club previously distancing itself from the situation.

According to SPORT, JJ Gabriel is pushing to leave Old Trafford and has his heart set on Barcelona. The 16-year-old has also attracted attention from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, giving him several options if he eventually leaves Manchester United.

JJ Gabriel formally asked to be deregistered from Manchester United in September following disagreements over his sporting situation. He has not trained with the club since, and the relationship between the two sides shows little sign of improving, despite United’s efforts to convince him to stay.

Manchester United has also threatened to take legal action in the matter.

Barcelona dream faces competition from European giants

Barcelona’s position makes the situation particularly interesting. Sporting director Deco previously said the club were not interested in a player in Gabriel’s situation.

That does not necessarily end the possibility of a move, especially if Gabriel continues to favour Barcelona. However, his preference alone will not decide where he ends up. Reports have suggested that the two parties have already held meetings while the teenager is keeping himself fit in Barcelona via private sessions.

Another factor could be the Cypriot passport Gabriel is reportedly expected to receive, provided the process is completed successfully. If that gives him EU status, it could significantly widen his options and make a January move more realistic.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are believed to be preparing major financial packages, while Bayern and PSG also remain in the picture, as previously reported by readmanutd.com.

The situation for Manchester United is becoming harder day by day and going out of control. JJ Gabriel remains one of the club’s most highly-rated young players, but his reported desire to leave, combined with growing European interest, means the next few months could be decisive.
