It appears that Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United career is over, judging by a report on his Barcelona future. The English forward has spent the season on loan at Camp Nou.
Rashford has been back to his best in Catalonia and impressed under Hansi Flick. He’s bagged 10 goals and 13 assists in 34 games across competitions.
Barca are pleased with the 27-year-old’s performance since signing him on loan. The Blaugrana have a £26m buy option they can take up this summer.
Rashford done at Manchester United
Rashford left Manchester United in unceremonious fashion after falling out with Ruben Amorim. He was exiled from the Red Devils’ first team in the winter of 2024.
Aston Villa pounced and signed the Englishman on loan for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign. He was then sent back out on loan to Barca.
Rashford is happy at Camp Nou and seems keen to join the La Liga giants permanently. A report from journalist Matteo Moretto suggests that it will come to fruition.
Moretto claims that United and Barca have begun talks over Rashford. The Spaniards are trying to sign him for less than £26m.
Michael Carrick’s appointment as Amorim’s replacement doesn’t appear to have changed the situation. A report from. If Carrick is kept on as head coach, he would reportedly be open to the player returning to Old Trafford.
Rashford made 426 appearances during nine years in Manchester United’s first team. He scored 138 goals and provided 79 assists, winning the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup.
Man United will be the losers
If the Red Devils agree to lower the price for Rashford, it would be a damning reflection on the club’s recruitment. He is excelling in Spain, and selling him for anything less than £26m feels nonsensical.
The possibility of offloading one of the most talented players to emerge from the academy for a cut-price fee is looking increasingly likely. This stems from the decision to give him a new £ 300,000-per-week contract in 2023.
Rashford is a world-class attacker on his day, and it’s a sad end for the Manchester-born’s career with the Red Devils. His mood reached rock bottom in the latter stages of his spell with his boyhood club.
It’s time to move on
There will always be debate over Rashford and how his Manchester United career ended. Amorim’s handling of the Englishman was controversial to say the least.
Rashford has reminded his critics of his enormous talent in Blaugrana’s colours. He had a point to prove after making the move, as many, including Teddy Sheringham, felt it was undeserved.
Manchester United will likely regret it, but a separation was best for all parties involved. The main issue is the way his departure has been handled.
Rashford has insisted he has nothing bad to say about his parent club. There should be no ill will between the club and their former academy graduate.
