- Myles Lewis-Skelly old comments go viral
- Hailed Paul Pogba as his idol
- Labeled the Frnechman as underrated and disrespected
Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, and not his old comments about a former Red Devils star have gone viral.
Earlier this season, the Englishman was on Sky Sports alongside his teammate Ethan Nwaneri, answering questions about each other. The current Marseille loanee revealed that the 19-year-old defender grew up idolizing Paul Pogba.
The Red Devils’ target swiftly admitted that it was true, adding that he liked everything about the World Cup winner, who had two stints at Old Trafford. He said:
“Paul Pogba, that was my guy, just everything, he was him for me.”
The host quizzed whether Lewis-Skelly felt the Frenchman was disrespected and underrated, and he was quick to agree. He added that they could spend hours talking about the current AS Monaco star and said:
“Of course, I could be here talking about my man for a long time.”
Lewis-Skelly was a week away from turning five years old when Pogba made his Manchester United debut in 2011, coming on in the League Cup tie against Leeds United.
Arsenal Open to Lewis-Skelly Sale Amid United Interest
Lewis-Skelly is reportedly frustrated with his minutes at Arsenal after falling down the pecking order at the club. Mikel Arteta has opted to use Riccardo Calafiori as the left-back this season, while Bayer Leverkusen loanee Piero Hincapie has overtaken the Englishman for the backup role.
He had started 26 times in his 42 appearances last season, but it was down to Calafiori, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Kieran Tierney having injury issues. With the main players now fit and the loanee seen as a better backup, the 19-year-old has been reduced to a bench role.
Reports earlier today suggested that the Gunners are willing to listen to offers for the versatile teenager, who can also play in midfield. He fits the bill at Old Trafford as he can operate in the two areas the Red Devils are looking to strengthen this summer.
Lewis-Skelly knocking on Old Trafford doors
According to the Daily Mail earlier this season, Lewis-Skelly was offered to Manchester United. The intermediaries are working behind the scenes to make the transfer happen, as the teenager wants to play regularly.
The Red Devils are looking for a long-term replacement for Luke Shaw, while the Arsenal star has also proved that he can do well in the midfield. With Manuel Ugarte’s future hanging in the balance and Casmiro leaving, the Englishman could slot into the squad as a midfield option when needed.
