- Dominic Calvert-Lewin has eyeballs on him
- Manchester United were linked last summer
- Another move this summer?
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is likely to be leading the attack for Leeds United against Manchester United on Monday at Old Trafford. The England striker could have easily been lining up for the Red Devils, as he was linked with a move after leaving Everton last summer.
The 29-year-old joined the Peacocks as a free agent last August and will be looking to make the most of his chances in the remaining matches this season. He has scored 11 goals in all competitions for his new side, and the game against Michael Carrick’s Reds gives him a chance to add to that tally.
With the FIFA World Cup happening this summer, Calvert-Lewin will be desperate to make the England squad. He will be aware that there will be more eyeballs on him during the big matches, and with competition from Ollie Watkins and Dominic Solanke for the backup striker role, he will be motivated to do more on the pitch next week.
Calvert-Lewin Will Relish Man United Game
Calvert-Lewin was constantly linked with Manchester United throughout his time at Everton. The English striker just couldn’t quite shake off constant injury struggles, and as a result, never made the move to the Theatre of Dreams.
The Red Devils might have been hesitant to move for him last summer despite getting the chance to sign him as a free agent. They instead turned to Benjamin Sesko up top and opted not to swoop for an experienced Premier League frontman.
Calvert-Lewin has since become a fan favourite at rivals Leeds. That’s why he might view Monday’s game as a perfect opportunity to make INEOS regret not turning to him last summer.
Calvert-Lewin to Manchester United in the summer?
Leeds are still in a relegation battle this season and are currently four points adrift of the drop zone. The Whites have three relegation six-pointers in the remaining seven matches of the season, and there is still a good chance of them going back to the Championship.
Should Farke’s side drop down once again, Calvert-Lewin might just become available once again. Manchester United need a backup for Benjamin Sesko, and with the Englishman turning 30 next year, he might just be willing to be a backup striker at a UEFA Champions League club.
