- Alejandro Garnacho left Manchester United last summer
- Argentine is struggling at Chelsea
- Sir Jim Ratcliffe was happy to see the back of him
Manchester United sold Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea last summer in a £40m deal and it’s fair to say the club are pleased with the decision. The Argentine winger has flopped at Stamford Bridge and his future is already in doubt.
Garnacho left unceremoniously after falling out with former head coach Ruben Amorim. He took issue with not starting a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League last season.
Amorim threw him into a bomb squad, which was a group of players who had no future at the Theatre of Dreams. What was meant to be a dream transfer to Chelsea, though, has been a nightmare for the 21-year-old.
Ratcliffe Left Smiling After Garnacho Exit
Chelsea are reportedly weighing up selling Garnacho just short of a year since he arrived in west London. He’s faltered, unable to win over their fans, the higher-ups and coach Liam Rosenior.
The Argentine started on the bench against his former club on Saturday night but came on in the first half due to Estevao’s injury. He put in a shambolic performance, with United stars seemingly mocking him after the 1-0 win.
The Old Trafford faithful have been amused by Garnacho’s fall from grace, given his behaviour towards the club. He downed tools to make it clear he wanted to join Chelsea and allegedly told Amorim that if he didn’t get that move, he’d stay and not play.
Amorim was pleased to wash his hands with the youngster, but so too was Sir Jim Ratcliffe. A report from The Daily Star claims that when the co-owner received news of the Blues’ offer for him, he “couldn’t stop smiling.”
There have been smiles on most United fans’ faces throughout Garnacho’s nosedive. Yes, it’s not nice to see a former academy graduate’s career pan out the way it is.
Garnacho Gets Karma
But his arrogance and poor attitude make it hard to sympathise with him, along with his lack of respect for the Reds. Take, for example, when he donned an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford’s name on the back, clearly a malicious move due to the Englishman’s own Old Trafford exit.
The difference is that Rashford left the right way, choosing not to speak negatively about the club. He acknowledged his success while with his boyhood team.
Garnacho has tried to poke fun at his former playing club since making his move to Stamford Bridge. He said he didn’t have any regrets about leaving, but news of Chelsea already wanting him gone should be a massive wake-up call.
