Manchester United vs Brentford: Matheus Cunha Ruled Out

Matheus Cunha looks set to miss tonight’s clash between Manchester United and Brentford. The Brazilian attacker has been a mainstay in Michael Carrick’s side since the English coach replaced Ruben Amorim.

SullyTalkz reports that Cunha has groin discomfort and won’t be available against the Bees. It’s a blow for Carrick given the 26-year-old has been in fine form.

Cunha scored the winner in United’s 1-0 win over Chelsea last Saturday. That took his tally for the season to eight goals and four assists in 30 league games.

No Cunha

With Cunha unavailable, it gives Carrick a headache on the left wing, although he might have Patrick Dorgu back from injury. The Danish winger has been sidelined since January with a hamstring problem, but reports indicate that he could be back in action tonight.

It’s unlikely Dorgu would start, though, given his lengthy period on the sidelines. The likely answer would be starting Amad on the left or even Shea Lacey, despite the latter playing for the U21’s last night.

United head into the game knowing they are within touching distance of Champions League qualification. Carrick’s men sit third in the league, eight points ahead of sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion with five games left.

Other Team News

The good news is that Harry Maguire returns from a two-game suspension and could line up alongside Ayden Heaven in central defence. There is a chance Leny Yoro makes the squad after missing the 1-0 win over Chelsea.

United will be without Lisandro Martinez who serves the second of a three-game ban. But there will be no Matthijs de Ligt who is still recovering from a back injury sustained in December.

Other than those two and Cunha, Carrick should have a full squad ready to get revenge over the Bees. The Reds suffered a 3-1 defeat at the Gtech in the reverse fixture.
