- Marcus Rashford saga continues
- Luke Shaw heir identified
Manchester United started the week off in perfect fashion by all but confirming a return to the Champions League. It’s been a rollercoaster ride of a season, but Michael Carrick has nearly guided the Reds to a top-five finish.
A 2-1 win over Brentford isn’t the only major talking point amongst United fans today. The future of Marcus Rashford remains uncertain amid a loan spell at Barcelona.
Luke Shaw came off in the win over the Bees and the club might have found a long-term replacement. That’s all included in today’s rundown of the biggest news stories.
Man United Beat The Bees
United are now just two points off qualifying for the Champions League after beating Brentford 2-1 on Monday night. Casemiro opened the scoring with a superb header, and Benjamin Sesko added a second before halftime.
The visitors did give the Reds a scare when Mathias Jensen struck late on. But Carrick’s men grabbed all three points and almost certainly booked their place in next season’s European elite competition.
Next up for the Red Devils is a massive clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. A win over their rivals will officially mean Champions League nights are back at the Theatre of Dreams.
Rashford Saga Rumbles on
United fans will be eager for the Marcus Rashford situation to reach its conclusion. The English forward has spent the season on loan at Barcelona and caught the eye with an impressive 13 goals and as many assists in 45 games across competitions.
That said, there have been doubts over Barca triggering the £26m buy option in the loan agreement. But there’s another twist in the tale as the La Liga giants are now proposing another loan.
According to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the Catalans want to sign Rashford on a second loan. Talks with United are ongoing, and they don’t want to use their buy option.
Shaw Heir Identified?
This season has been a good one for Shaw, who has stayed injury-free and played an important role in the top-five challenge. But at 30, he isn’t getting any younger and will eventually need to be replaced.
Reports in Turkiye claim that United are eyeing Brighton left-back Ferdi Kadioglu. He could cost around £40m, is Premier League-proven, and could be a long-term solution.
The Reds have been without Patrick Dorgu since January due to injury which has highlighted the need for a new left-back. It’s resulted in Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui being used as makeshift left-backs.
