- Casemiro tells Man Utd to appoint Michael Carrick
- Rafael Leao eyed as Marcus Rashford replacement
- Betway sponsor deal ‘advanced’
Manchester United are entering a new era this summer, and it looks all but certain to have Michael Carrick steering the ship. The Red Devils have yet to decide on their next permanent head coach, but it seems inconceivable that he won’t land the job at this point.
Carrick has guided United back to Champions League nights and the icing on the cake came on Sunday. A 3-2 win over rivals Liverpool ensured his troops will be competing amongst Europe’s elite next season.
Managerial decision aside, the club have an important summer ahead as they look to continue rebuilding the squad. Addressing Casemiro’s exit is a priority but Marcus Rashford could also be replaced.
Casemiro Champions Carrick
Casemiro is enjoying a stellar end to his United career and the Brazilian midfielder has been a key man under Carrick. So much so, fans have been heard chanting “One more year, Casemiro” during and after recent games.
While the 34-year-old has firmly ruled out a U-turn over his exit, he is confident Carrick is the man to take the team forward. He said:
“In my opinion, he completely deserves it [the Manchester United job], I think he’s a guy who has already demonstrated that he has very good qualities to be a Manchester United coach. So it’s not up to me to choose, it’s up to the club.”
Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim as United head coach in January, and INEOS tasked him with achieving Champions League qualification. He’s exceeded expectations, overseeing 10 wins and two defeats in 14 games.
Leao Eyed as Rashford Replacement
United seem intent on strengthening not just in midfield but also out wide on the left. Rashford’s Old Trafford career is almost certainly over despite Barcelona’s reluctance to pay a £26m buy option in his loan deal.
Reports claim that the Reds have set their sights on AC Milan’s Rafael Leao as a potential replacement. The Portuguese attacker has long been regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents.
United need Rashford to move on in order to make a move for the Milan man. The 26-year-old has appeared 29 times across competitions this season, registering 10 goals and three assists.
Betway Sponsorship Deal
In other news that might cause one or two issues with fans, United are reportedly in “advanced talks” with Betway to become a training kit sponsor. It’s believed to be a multi-year deal worth in excess of £18m per year.
Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic reports that this will fill gaps after Tezos’ sponsorship ended in June 2025. The proposed deal is set to be one of the “biggest of it’s kind.”
