- United’s interest in AC Milan Winger
- How Rashford could pave the way for Leao’s move to Old Trafford
- United’s plan to add more firepower on the wings
Manchester United’s need for a left winger is high on their list. But the club has to resolve Marcus Rashford’s future before stepping up to pursue their next target, and a Serie A star could be his desired replacement.
United have yet to find an answer from Barcelona over Rashford. The La Liga leaders are pushing to renegotiate his £26 million buy clause or extend his loan by another year. While in Italy, the club have been monitoring AC Milan winger Rafeal Leao.
The Serie A star is on United’s summer radar, with Rashford’s deal holding the key. The Portuguese attacker is highly-regarded in European football and could be an excellent acquisition.
Leao For Rashford?
The Daily Mail reports Leão is linked with United. The 26-year-old is moving closer to the exit door this summer with competition from Liverpool and Arsenal, so the club should act fast.
Signing a new winger would be a mandate as the side needs depth for next season’s Champions League. This season, the Portuguese winger netted 10 goals and three assists in 28 games across all competitions.
The versatile Rossoneri forward has two years remaining in his contract. Even as the club considers a renewal, reports claim they are willing to consider a sale for around €50 million (£43.1m).
That number has already caught the attention of several European clubs. As for United, Rashford’s situation keeps them stuck, with Barca yet to decide on a permanent move; his place at Old Trafford remains uncertain, largely due to his hefty £315,000-a-week wages.
Cunha Competition
No bids have been submitted so far, although Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain remain interested. The narrative around Leao is now centred on a possible transfer to England.
The Old Trafford outfit has had interest in the winger for the past few seasons, but their progress has not gone further than the initial stages. His pace, creativity, and eye for goal make him a mix for any club, looking to snatch him. For Milan, the Portugal international has scored 80 goals and made 65 assists in 288 appearances. This makes him one of the best wingers in Europe.
Along with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Amad, United plans to add more firepower. Despite the lack of progress, the club is actively preparing for a possible summer transfer.
