Myles Lewis-Skelly is on Manchester United‘s radar ahead of the summer transfer window, and there is a chance Arsenal will agree to a sale. The English left-back has lacked game time this season, falling behind Riccardo Califori in Mikel Arteta’s pecking order.

Ben Jacobs has told The United Stand that Lewis-Skelly could be “one to watch.” He claims that the Gunners have softened their position to at least engage with offers.

Lewis-Skelly has indicated that he wants more playing time, which could help a deal. The 19-year-old has started just four of 18 league games and looks set to miss out on a place in England’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.

Lewis-Skelly Could Replace Shaw

Lewis-Skelly ticks plenty of boxes for United as he can play both at left-back and in midfield. The Red Devils are expected to make three midfield signings this summer.

That said, it’s at left-back where the Hale End academy graduate could be a massive get for the club. He has impressed ever since debuting for the Gunners and it’s been surprising to see him lack game time this season.

Luke Shaw is a player who will be looking over his shoulder if United were able to sign the England international. The 30-year-old has played in all 36 league games, putting injury woes behind him.

Given his age, Shaw will need to be replaced sooner rather than later. He continues to be an important member of Michael Carrick’s squad but a young and exciting talent like Lewis-Skelly could take the team to the next level.

Strength in Depth Needed

A return to UEFA Champions League nights next season makes depth hugely important. A lack of a viable backup to Shaw has been problematic for quite some time.

United needs to address this with a new signing rather than continuing to throw Diogo Dalot out to the left. It seems as though Patrick Dorgu is now viewed as a winger rather than a full-back.

Lewis-Skelly’s potential acquisition also helps add another option in the middle of the park. He’s caught the eye with some superb performances in midfield for Arsenal.

The London-born teenage ace also has experience playing in the Champions League, including at the Santiago Bernabeu. He put in two excellent displays in a quarter-final victory over Real Madrid.
