- Man Utd eyeing Lewis Hall
- Newcastle United name their price
- England star could replace Luke Shaw
Manchester United have learned how much it will cost to buy a Newcastle United star this summer. The Red Devils are set to strengthen Michael Carrick’s squad ahead of a return to the UEFA Champions League next season.
Ederson looks set to become Carrick’s first signing as permanent head coach. The Reds have agreed a deal with Atalanta for the Brazilian midfielder.
There are plenty more midfielders on United’s radar as they conduct a major overhaul in the middle of the park. But the transfer chiefs are also looking to strengthen at left-back.
Man Utd want Lewis Hall
Lewis Hall is on United’s wishlist and the club are eyeing the young English full-back as a long-term Luke Shaw replacement. He’s enjoyed a fine season at St James’ Park and was unfortunate to miss out on a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup.
According to Manchester Evening News‘ Steven Railston, the Red Devils “are interested” in Hall despite Newcastle insisting he’s not for sale. If the 21-year-old’s head can be turned, a £70m offer would be considered.
Hall made 47 appearances across competitions, posting one goal and two assists. His best display arguably came against Barcelona in the Champions League when he nullified the threat of Lamine Yamal.
Wayne Rooney gave a glowing verdict of Hall’s performance, calling him “brilliant.” It is one of many impressive showings from the former Chelsea youngster.
Luke Shaw’s heir
Hall looks to be a genuine target for United and there has long been a need to hand Luke Shaw credible competition at left-back. The Red Devils star put injury issues behind him and appeared in each of the club’s 38 league games last season.
That’s a huge achievement for Shaw whose Old Trafford career has been blighted by constant injury setbacks. He was at his best for the majority of the campaign, putting in consistent performances.
At 30 years of age, Shaw isn’t getting any younger and will eventually need to be replaced. Having Hall arrive and initially rotate with his compatriot could be ideal.
The price isn’t great given the Newcastle player isn’t a priority. But if United can negotiate a fee below this they might have themselves the long-term Shaw heir.
