- Man Utd enter race for Moussa Diaby
- Former Aston Villa winger is in demand
- AC Milan and Inter Milan also keen
Manchester United are expected to sign a new winger this summer but Moussa Diaby isn’t the answer. The former Aston Villa winger appears to be on the club’s radar.
According to a report by FussballDaten, the Red Devils have been closely monitoring the 26-year-old. Diaby moved to the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2024 in a €60 million deal from Villa, but could return to the Premier League.
The French international has enjoyed a highly productive campaign in the Middle East, registering an impressive 21 goal contributions (6 goals and 15 assists) for Al-Ittihad.
Man Utd eyeing Moussa Diaby
Al-Ittihad are under no financial pressure to sell Diaby since his contract runs until 2029. United will have to pay a significant fee to convince the Saudi giants to part ways with the player.
Diaby himself might have to force the transfer, and the Reds aren’t the only ones said to be interested. AC Milan and Inter Milan are also in the mix for the Frenchman.
Inter are particularly keen on the 26-year-old and are even considering paying €35-€40m in the winter transfer window. Ittihad might well have accepted an offer in that ballpark.
The problem this time around is the possibility of an auction, given that three clubs are seemingly keen on Diaby. He is one of several wingers linked with United.
Not the solution
While Diaby has a strong profile that could suit United, he is primarily a right winger. Michael Carrick already has Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo as options out on the right.
The left wing is where the Reds need an addition, and Diaby isn’t the solution. With the likes of Morgan Rogers and Mateus Mane on the club’s radar, the Frenchman should be low down on INEOS’ shortlist.
Diaby impressed during his time in England with Villa, posting 10 goals and 11 assists in 54 games across competitions. He is versatile but isn’t a signing that would take Carrick’s team to the next level, especially at the significant fee suggested.
If United get to a stage in the transfer window where their top left wing targets are unavailable, then Diaby could be an option. But he shouldn’t be prioritised heading into the window.
