- Fabrizio Romano drops Man Utd update
- Journalist suggests work behind the scenes
- Why lack of updates is good news
Fabrizio Romano has told Manchester United fans to “stay tuned” and hinted that work is being conducted behind the scenes. The transfer expert’s comments make it clear that there has been a significant change in the club’s recruitment.
In years gone by, during The Glazers controversial era in control of sporting operations, every move United made was reported on. That’s why journalists and ITKs link the club with any footballer on the planet who is in the rumour mill.
Since INEOS took control of the club’s football decisions, there have been fewer leaks regarding transfer news. It’s a promising sign that the higher-ups are managing to do their business without word getting out.
Romano’s tight lipped Man Utd update
Romano said on his YouTube channel that fans should: “Stayed tuned because in the next days I will tell you more on Manchester United and midfielders. They are already working on it behind the scenes. After Ederson, Michael Carrick will get at least one more.”
It sounds as though even Romano isn’t fully in the know regarding United’s current plans. We Reds have watched many clubs, including Manchester City, land players out of nowhere.
A similar scenario occurred when United made a concrete move for Ederson. The Atalanta midfielder hadn’t been mentioned as one of the club’s top targets during the latter stages of the season.
Ederson is all but wrapped up and is set to officially join the Reds in a £37.8m deal in July. Other midfielders are on the club’s radar, such as West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni.
No news might be good news
The lack of information reaching reporters about the ongoing events in the transfer boardroom is a good sign that the club is headed in the right direction. INEOS have done well in preventing its activity from being constantly documented.
This is crucial, as United are constantly eyeing players linked with their rivals. Elliot Anderson is the prime example, initially many expected to replace Casemiro but instead seems to be more likely headed for Manchester City.
If INEOS can continue to conduct their business behind closed doors and without their every move making it into the gossip mill, it bodes well. There’s every chance a surprise name joins the club this summer, perhaps one that hasn’t even been mentioned.
