Manchester United are reportedly preparing to turn attention towards the left side of Michael Carrick’s squad, with Crysencio Summerville and Lewis Hall named as possible options after midfield work around Ederson and Mateus Fernandes.
The update, carried in a fresh report from The Sun, says United are assessing whether their next move should be for a left winger or a left-back as the summer rebuild continues.
Summerville is identified as a left-sided attacking target after an impressive campaign at West Ham United, while Hall is described as a possible defensive option amid questions over United’s depth on that flank.
United’s left-side decision follows midfield push
The report places the left-side search in the context of United’s midfield activity, with Ederson’s move from Atalanta described as imminent and Fernandes also framed as a live target.
That sequencing matters. United already have Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui giving them options on the right, but the left side carries more uncertainty.
Marcus Rashford’s long-term position remains unresolved after his loan spells away from Old Trafford, while Luke Shaw is entering a crucial contract period. Youngsters Harry Amass and Diego Leon are expected to get pre-season exposure, but both could still need carefully managed minutes rather than immediate responsibility.
For Carrick, the choice is therefore not just about adding another name. Summerville would point towards extra thrust and one-v-one threat high up the pitch. Hall would speak to defensive balance, squad freshness and a longer-term succession plan at left-back.
United’s next move should reveal which problem the club believe is more urgent.
