Felix Nmecha to Manchester United remains a live transfer story, but Borussia Dortmund’s huge valuation could force Christopher Vivell and Michael Carrick to keep firm control of the deal.
The Germany midfielder has been linked with United during a busy midfield window, with Dortmund reportedly pointing towards a package as high as €120million.
TEAMtalk reports that German sources have claimed Dortmund want around €120million for Nmecha, although the same report stresses United sources have played down the idea of any move being close to that level. That distinction matters.
United’s recruitment department, led by Vivell, have already been credited with contact around Nmecha, while TEAMtalk has also reported that the 25-year-old would prefer Manchester United or Manchester City over Newcastle United.
Carrick Needs Control Over The Nmecha Price
The attraction is obvious. Nmecha offers Carrick height, running power and Champions League-level edge in a midfield group still being reshaped around Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes and new arrivals.
He also has Manchester roots, having previously come through Manchester City’s academy before moving to Wolfsburg and then Dortmund. That gives the story extra search interest, but United cannot let that background blur the financial reality.
Read ManUtd has already covered United’s wider midfield search around Ayyoub Bouaddi, and Nmecha now belongs in the same broader conversation. Carrick needs quality, but he also needs a recruitment structure that does not get pulled into panic-auction territory.
Dortmund’s valuation is the central issue. Nmecha may fit the tactical brief, but United have to decide whether he fits the rebuild at anything close to that price.
The smarter call is not walking away automatically. It is making sure the fee reflects United’s plan rather than Dortmund’s strongest possible negotiating position.
