Mason Greenwood is close to joining Fenerbahce from Marseille, with Manchester United still set to benefit through their sell-on clause.
Fabrice Hawkins reports that Greenwood is nearing a move to Fenerbahce, with Marseille set to receive around £34m for the forward.
United hold a 40% sell-on clause from the deal that took Greenwood to France. Hawkins adds that Fenerbahce chose to negotiate Marseille’s 60% share with the French club, while also holding separate talks with United over their 40%.
That structure makes the deal more complex than a standard transfer. It also keeps United financially involved, even though Greenwood left Old Trafford permanently in 2024.
United Watch Greenwood Fee Closely
ReadManUtd recently covered how Atletico Madrid’s interest in Greenwood gave United a sell-on clause watch. Fenerbahce now appear to have moved ahead in the race.
For United, the issue remains financial rather than sporting. Greenwood has no route back into the squad, but his next transfer can still bring money into the club.
A £34m Marseille fee would represent another major move in Greenwood’s career after his season in Ligue 1. United will now wait to see how the final structure affects their return.
The clause was always designed to protect United if Greenwood rebuilt his value away from Old Trafford. That now appears to be happening.
Fenerbahce still need to complete the final steps, but the Turkish club look close to landing the forward. United, meanwhile, have a separate financial stake to settle before the deal can fully close.
