Ruben Amorim Admits Manchester United Mistakes In Exit Reflection

Ruben Amorim has admitted he made mistakes at Manchester United and said he is proud to have coached the club for a year.

Speaking about his time at Old Trafford, Amorim said he had learned “a lot” from the experience.

The former United head coach also said he regretted not being able to address supporters properly when his spell ended.

“The only thing I can say is that I learn a lot and I did some mistakes,” Amorim said, with the comments relayed by TouchlineX.

“I didn’t have opportunity – and I am sorry for that – to say something to the Manchester United fans at the moment.

“I am really proud to have been their coach for a year.”

Amorim’s United spell ended in January 2026 after a difficult period at Old Trafford. Manchester United’s own financial filing later confirmed his departure on 5 January 2026, with members of his coaching staff also leaving.

Amorim Reflection Adds Closure To Difficult United Spell

Amorim’s comments are measured, but they still carry weight.

His time at United brought tactical frustration, poor results and constant scrutiny. It also left supporters without a proper closing message when the change was made.

That is why this reflection lands differently. It is not a defence of the job he did. It is closer to an acknowledgement that the experience did not work as planned.

The apology to fans is also important. Amorim had previously spoken about wanting to address United supporters during his spell, with The Guardian reporting in May 2025 that he intended to apologise after a difficult season.

For United, the focus has now moved on. Michael Carrick is shaping the next stage of the rebuild, with the squad already being reshaped through midfield targets and expected exits.

Amorim’s words do not change what happened. They do, however, give his United spell a cleaner ending than the one it had at the time.

For supporters, the line that will stand out is simple. He made mistakes, he learned from them and he remains proud to have managed Manchester United.
