Bayern Munich no longer plan to sell Kim Min-jae this summer despite reported interest from Manchester United.
Sky Sports Germany reports that Bayern have changed their position and now expect the South Korea international to remain at the Allianz Arena. The Bundesliga champions could still reconsider if they receive a significant offer and Kim pushes for the move.
United monitored the 29-year-old during the World Cup, but no club opened formal negotiations before South Korea’s group-stage exit. Kim remains under contract with Bayern until June 2028, which leaves the German club in control of any talks.
United would need to force Bayern into talks
Kim has appeared on United’s radar several times since his title-winning season with Napoli. His pace, physical strength and ability to defend aggressively would give Michael Carrick another experienced option at centre-back.
However, the latest update states that Bayern no longer view Kim as a player they actively want to sell. United would therefore need to submit a sizeable offer before any negotiation could begin.
The club must also decide how highly defensive reinforcement sits on Carrick’s priority list. United have already strengthened midfield with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, while the recruitment team continues to explore a long-term left-back.
ReadManUtd’s latest transfer-window overview highlighted the number of areas United still want to address before the season starts. A costly move for Kim could reduce the funds available for those other positions.
Bayern have not completely closed the door, but their new stance makes a transfer less likely. United now need Kim to show a clear desire to leave before committing serious money to the deal.
