Manchester United have confirmed the signing of experienced goalkeeper Karl Darlow following his departure from Leeds United.
The Wales international has signed a contract until June 2028, with United holding an option to extend the agreement by another year.
Darlow joins subject to registration and provides Michael Carrick with another dependable senior option behind first-choice goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
The 35-year-old has made 279 senior appearances, including 74 in the Premier League. He established himself as Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper last season and kept five clean sheets.
United confirmed the transfer through their official announcement, with Darlow describing the move as a “really special opportunity”.

Darlow’s arrival follows uncertainty around several members of United’s goalkeeper department.
André Onana has returned to Trabzonspor on loan, while Altay Bayındır has also been linked with a move away. Carrick therefore needed experienced cover capable of supporting Lammens without requiring a major transfer fee.

Director of football Jason Wilcox praised Darlow’s work ethic, personality and proven ability at the highest level.
The former Nottingham Forest and Newcastle goalkeeper will not necessarily arrive expecting to displace Lammens. His experience should provide reliable cover, competition in training and another option for domestic cup matches.
United have added a low-risk, homegrown goalkeeper without paying a transfer fee. Darlow’s longer contract also suggests the club view him as more than a short-term emergency solution.
