Manchester United have completed the signing of 18-year-old winger Tynan Thompson from Tottenham Hotspur, subject to registration.
United moved quickly after learning that Thompson could be available, with formal club-to-club talks taking place over the weekend.
The teenager had signed professional terms with Tottenham in May 2025. His move to Old Trafford therefore required United to agree a transfer with their Premier League rivals.
The fee and length of Thompson’s United contract have not been disclosed.
Transfer reporter Ben Jacobs confirmed Thompson’s arrival, with the winger now set to begin the next stage of his development in Manchester.
United continue academy recruitment drive
Thompson progressed through the Tottenham academy after previously playing for Lambeth Tigers.
He featured regularly for Spurs at Under-18 and Under-21 level, scoring the winning goal against Leicester City in last season’s Premier League 2 play-offs.
Thompson was also named in Tottenham’s senior matchday squad for their Carabao Cup victory over Doncaster Rovers in September 2025, although he did not make his first-team debut.
The wide forward has represented England at Under-17 and Under-18 level, providing further evidence of his standing among the country’s emerging players.
United are expected to place Thompson within their professional development structure initially. Michael Carrick will still have opportunities to assess him around the senior squad if his performances justify further involvement.
The pathway remains open after several academy players featured in the opening pre-season friendly against Wrexham. ReadManUtd recently covered how Carrick praised Jacob Devaney following the academy group’s display.
Thompson now joins that group of young players competing to attract the head coach’s attention.
United have not signed him as an immediate solution for Carrick’s attack. The deal instead adds another highly rated English prospect to an academy built around long-term development and a route towards senior football.
