A move taking Jadon Sancho to Al-Rayyan has emerged as a serious option after the winger received an offer from the Qatari club.
The former Manchester United player remains without a team after his Old Trafford contract expired earlier this month.
Sancho officially became a free agent on 1 July, ending a difficult five-year association with United. The 26-year-old is considering his options following successive loan spells with Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Al-Rayyan hope his availability will allow them to complete a high-profile free transfer. However, no details about the proposed salary or contract length have been disclosed.
Jadon Sancho to Al-Rayyan offer confirmed
According to Foot Mercato, Al-Rayyan have submitted an offer to Sancho as they attempt to bring the 23-cap England international to Qatar. The winger is currently assessing the different opportunities available to him.
Sancho had reportedly hoped to remain in European football, with another Borussia Dortmund return previously discussed. The Al-Rayyan proposal could force him to decide between continuing at the highest European level and accepting a fresh start in Qatar.
Manchester United have already moved forward without the attacker. Michael Carrick has reshaped his squad, while further decisions are being made over the remaining forwards.
ReadManUtd recently reported that Joshua Zirkzee’s possible exit could depend on Benjamin Sesko’s recovery. Sancho’s departure is different because United allowed his contract to expire and no longer control his next move.
A move taking Jadon Sancho to Al-Rayyan would end his search for a club, but it would also represent a significant change in direction at only 26.
For United, the situation is already closed. Sancho leaves without generating a transfer fee, and his next decision will determine whether he can begin rebuilding his career away from the Premier League.
