Man Utd eye £30m star who has given green light to Old Trafford move

Manchester United are considering a move for RB Leipzig defender David Raum after the Germany international reportedly indicated he would be happy to join Michael Carrick’s side.

United have made the signing of another left-back a priority during the closing weeks of the transfer window, but their preferred pursuit of Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall has stalled.

The Red Devils are now assessing alternatives, with Raum emerging as one of the most intriguing options available.

TEAMtalk reports that Raum has previously held discussions with United and would welcome the prospect of moving to Old Trafford. The 28-year-old would also be prepared to compete with Luke Shaw for the starting position.

David Raum emerges as serious Man Utd option

Raum’s contract situation could make him particularly attractive to United.

The Germany international has entered the final year of his deal with RB Leipzig and has a release clause worth around £34million. However, intermediaries reportedly believe Leipzig could be persuaded to sell for less than £30m rather than risk losing him for a significantly reduced fee later.

United’s recruitment department already knows the player well.

Christopher Vivell worked with Raum during his time at Leipzig and previously praised the defender’s pace, delivery and ability to create danger from wide positions. Raum has developed into one of the Bundesliga’s most productive attacking full-backs and provided seven league assists last season.

His experience would also offer something different to some of the younger players United are considering.

ReadManUtd reported earlier today that United have also made an enquiry for Club Brugge youngster Joaquin Seys, with Carrick and the recruitment team examining several possible solutions after Newcastle blocked a move for Hall.

Raum, however, arrives with Champions League and international experience and appears open to making the switch.

United have not completely abandoned their interest in Hall, but Newcastle have given no indication that they are prepared to negotiate this summer. TEAMtalk says that pursuit has effectively been parked while Jason Wilcox assesses the alternatives.

No formal United offer for Raum has been reported.

His willingness to move, coupled with the possibility of negotiating a deal below £30m, gives United a potentially realistic option as they attempt to solve one of the final major issues in Carrick’s squad.
